Career Pathway Information for Jacksonville Early Childhood Educators
Early Childhood Education in Jacksonville, Florida, has become a priority for the community, its leadership, and especially for the organizations that provide professional development opportunities to Early Childhood Educators. Florida Community College at Jacksonville (FCCJ) has entered into a partnership with Episcopal Children's Services and the Jacksonville Children's Commission (JCC) to develop a "no fail" career pathway for Early Childhood Educators. This comprehensive approach to serving the educational needs of child care workers has been inspired by a remarkable city-wide effort to make children and children's literacy the focus of our collaborative efforts. Mayor John Peyton's Literacy Policy Council, the Early Learning Coalition of Duval (ELC), Head Start Jacksonville, and the North Florida Partnership for Professional Development (NFPDP) have all offered support for the development of a career pathway for Early Childhood Educators. In this career pathway, child care workers move through the basic training level through a Child Development Associate credential, through the A.S. Degree in Early Childhood to an articulated Bachelor's program at a 4-year institution with financial and academic support throughout their education process.
