Grand Central Ventures, LLC
Derrick Smith is principal of Grand Central Ventures, LLC, a consulting company formed in 2017 to assist small and medium-sized companies with business development, market strategy and organizational design and training. A member of the Episcopal Children’s Services Board of Trustees since 2015, he currently serves as Chairperson.
Prior to founding Grand Central Ventures, Mr. Smith enjoyed a 31-year career at CSX, holding various management positions until retiring as Vice President for Strategic Business Development. In this position, he had executive oversight of industrial development, a network of bulk rail transfer terminals, and the management of business relationships with approximately 240 short line and regional railroads connecting to the CSX network.
Mr. Smith earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and public policy from Carnegie-Mellon University and an MBA with a concentration in marketing from the Columbia Business School. In addition, he completed the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program. Having served previously on many not-for-profit boards in the community, his current service includes being a mentor with the Jacksonville Chapter of the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE). He is also a 2003 graduate of Leadership Jacksonville.
