Dr. Heidi Maier
Superintendent of Schools, Marion County Public Schools
Dr. Heidi Maier was elected superintendent of schools in August 2016 and took office on November 22, 2016. In this capacity, she directly oversees the daily operations of a school district with 43,000 students, 6,000+ employees, and 52 schools.
Maier graduated from high school in Altoona, Pennsylvania. She started with Marion County Public Schools in 1999 and taught pre-K and kindergarten classes at Sunrise and College Park Elementary Schools for six years.
Prior to becoming superintendent, Maier was the program manager of Teacher Education, associate professor of Early Childhood Education, and the University Center director at the College of Central Florida in Ocala.
She previously served as assistant professor at Barry University and was a program specialist in the Office of Early Learning with the Florida Department of Education.

Maier has served on boards of directors for the College of Central Florida Alumni, Early Learning Coalition of Marion County, and Success by Six and Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten committees at the United Way of Marion County. She also was a Take Stock in Children mentor and served on the Marion County School Board Tax Oversight and Parent Advisory committees.
She was Sunrise Elementary School’s 2001 Rookie Teacher of the Year and has been honored for her educational efforts by Barry University, the College of Central Florida, and the International Conference for Teaching and Learning.
Maier has one college-aged son.
