Helping Families Ensure Their Children Enter School Ready to Learn

Giving Tuesday Now

Gracelynn

We’re shining a Spotlight on Success for #GivingTuesdayNow on Gracelynn, whose parents were determined that she should live her life without limits and have the same opportunities as every other child. That’s where the Early Head Start Program from Episcopal Children’s Services comes in.

Gracelynn’s teachers quickly went to work with individualized activities and extra supports. Because Episcopal Children’s Services creates a supportive environment, children gain confidence to explore their world. Gracelynn’s Mom tells us, “Among so many other challenges she is beating the odds.”

COVID-19 has added another challenge to Gracelynn and the other almost 2,400 children we serve. While we are providing education and family support services virtually, our children need additional help with diapers and pull-ups. A $15 donation will provide a week of diapers and wipes.

Miss Rena’s Class

We’re shining a Spotlight on Success for #GivingTuesdayNow on Miss Rena, who is making sure her young learners continue to develop their academic skills despite the need to shelter in place. Miss Rena knows her students love to be challenged and master new skills.

Episcopal Children’s Services prepares children to enter kindergarten ready to learn. When children begin school armed with skills and knowledge, they are more likely to graduate high school and attend college, be employed with a livable income, engage in healthy behaviors and contribute to their community.

COVID-19 has added another challenge to our work in educating the almost 2,400 children we serve in our Head Start and Early Head Start programs. While we are providing education and family support services virtually, our children need school supplies to support their learning activities at home. A $20 donation will provide a full supply kit for one of our young learners.

Jasmine & Gideon

We’re shining a Spotlight on Success for #GivingTuesdayNow on Jasmine and her son Gideon. When they began the Early Head Start program from Episcopal Children’s Services, Jasmine was unemployed and living with relatives to avoid experiencing homelessness. She reported that Gideon seemed to be struggling developmentally.

Episcopal Children’s Services uses a two-generation approach to support both children and parents. With data from our developmental screenings, Gideon’s teachers implemented an individualized plan to help with his communication and social-emotional development. Our Parent Engagement program supported Jasmine with financial literacy and employment support with our community partners.

We’re proud to report great success! Gideon’s academic learning has soared, Jasmine is now employed full time and they were both thrilled to move to their own apartment.

Although COVID-19 challenges us to find new and creative ways to deliver our services, Episcopal Children’s Services is committing to building strength and resilience for the almost 2,400 families we serve. Please support our work to provide education and family support with a donation on #GivingTuesdayNow.
