While temperatures drop throughout Florida and Georgia, the kids here at ECS are finding many ways to stay warm in these two states.

This week across usually sunny Florida, temperatures are planning on plummeting to record challenging lows in the 20s and 30s. Around 46% of Floridian families fall below the ALICE Threshold, meaning they’re either living below the poverty line or defined as Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE). Affording cold-weather essentials such as coats, sweaters, and blankets can be especially difficult for families that are already struggling to cover things like groceries, rent, and childcare.

In Florida, where cold snaps are usually quite unpredictable, many households are finding it hard to prepare for the sudden drops in temperature. For families that must live paycheck to paycheck, even buying something as simple as a winter coat can mean choosing between staying warm and another necessity. Our centers not only provide food, diapers & wipes, but support the family with resources to meet these other needs. Our partners at Christ Church have provided us with many resources to help those in need. At ECS4Kids, we ensure that our little learners are prepared for not only the next level of development, but for the chilly weather as well.
