At ECS4Kids, we know that the most effective way to advocate for early childhood education is by inviting others to experience it firsthand. That’s why we organize legislative tours at our early learning centers across the state. These visits offer elected officials a unique opportunity to see the impact of our work in their own communities and to connect personally with the mission that drives us.
These tours play a vital role in building awareness and understanding of ECS4Kids and the importance of early learning. When lawmakers walk through our centers, they see the difference our programs make in the lives of children and families. They also gain insight into the specific needs of the communities they represent, which helps them make more informed decisions about policy and funding.
Beyond education and advocacy, these tours help strengthen relationships. By meeting our staff, hearing directly from families, and witnessing the joy and learning in our classrooms, elected officials become more than just observers. They become partners. These connections often lead to collaboration on community initiatives and open the door for ECS4Kids to serve as a resource when legislators are working on issues related to childcare and early education.

Each tour is designed to be brief but meaningful. In about an hour, lawmakers receive an overview of ECS4Kids’ programs and our footprint in their district and across the state. They tour the center, visit classrooms and playgrounds, engage in conversation with educators and even get to put on blue safety booties when visiting with our youngest children. One of the most powerful moments often comes when a parent or HeadStart alum shares a personal story, illustrating the long-term impact of early learning.
These local visits also support our broader advocacy efforts, including our Day at the Capitol. When legislators have already seen our work up close, they come to policy discussions with a deeper understanding and a stronger connection to the issues. The tours help keep early learning top of mind throughout the year, creating a rhythm of engagement that benefits children, families, and communities.
Legislative tours are more than just a glimpse into our classrooms. They are a bridge between policy and practice, helping ensure that decisions made in government are grounded in the real experiences of those we serve.
