Approximately 850 of our center staff convened in four regions across two states in preparation for the 2026-27 school year for two full days of interactive training.
Through hands-on experiences, participants distinguished between product art and process art while connecting relevant ECS4Kids policies to high-quality instructional interactions and authentic child observations. The session reinforced how intentional teaching practices support children’s creativity, development and school readiness.

Our team of professionals also explored the differences between fixed and growth mindsets and examined how these perspectives influence both children and educators. Through scenario-based learning, staff identified opportunities to cultivate classrooms that encourage resilience, perseverance and a growth mindset, equipping children with the confidence to embrace challenges while learning from their mistakes.

Our Operations department led a reflective review of key ECS4Kids policies and procedures, ensuring participants not only understood organizational expectations but could also apply them confidently in their daily work. By making practical connections between policy and practice, staff left better prepared to support safe, consistent and high-quality services across the agency.

Inspired by Tyler Perry’s Straw, the Family & Engagement Services session entitled, “Before the Last Straw,” encouraged participants to reflect on the realities families may face beyond what is immediately visible. Staff identified how to recognize signs of stress, respond with empathy and compassion, and strengthen their ability to support families with understanding while building trusting relationships.

The Child Wellness Health & Nutrition Services training provided a comprehensive review of required health topics, including Individual Health Care Plans, medication administration, daily health checks, and universal precautions. Grounded in evidence-based practices, this session cemented the knowledge and skills needed to promote healthy, safe learning environments for every child entrusted to our care.

“These in-person learning events focused on classroom best practices grounded in current policies and procedures while providing opportunities for collaboration, reflection, and hands-on learning,” stated Lauren Berk, Director of Professional Development. “Most importantly, Pre-Service is designed to build excitement, strengthen our shared commitment to high-quality early childhood education, and inspire our team as we prepare to welcome children and families for a successful new school year.”
