“I like the fact that my daughters are smart. Y’all have taught them a lot. Childcare has helped me be able to catch up on sleep before I work the night shift and study for school.” -– Kaonn Harris single mother of two children, Karlee (4) and Kyree (1)
Kaonn has been a part of the ECS4Kids family for three years. Both of her girls attend Gainesville Head Start and have been since they were infants. Kaonn is a PRN at Shands Hospital and going to nursing school full-time. She recently moved into her own place and is doing a great job to make a better life for her children. She is set to graduate in 2026.
Lifting the barriers of childcare that often interferes with employment and education, allows Kaonn to work twelve hours shifts, attend school, diligently study, and pass all her exams. And she still finds time to engage in her children’s education. She completes in-kind activities daily and keeps up with at-home-learning activities for her girls.
She keeps a regular health care schedule ensuring up to date immunizations and well-baby exams are completed. Mom said that it gets hard at times but that she remains very positive and thankful. “I love the staff. Especially Ms. Cyarah and Mrs. Karen who have helped raise both of my children.”
Karlee and Kyree are progressing like they should, passing all their screenings. They have adjusted to the new school year and are excelling in the classroom. We are excited to watch this family soar!
